Ramadan Food Baskets for Families in Gaza (2023)
During the holy month of Ramadan in 2023, HANDS International and MCEC reached out to families in need across Gaza, providing them with essential food baskets. These parcels offered a lifeline to those struggling during a time of increased hardship.
Gaza has faced immense challenges in recent years, with ongoing conflict and economic instability creating a dire situation for many families. Ramadan, a time for spiritual reflection and community, can be a particularly difficult period for those who cannot afford food for their families.
Our Ramadan food baskets distribution program brought much-needed relief. Each basket contained essential food items such as rice, lentils, cooking oil, and dates, ensuring families had enough to prepare nutritious meals for Suhoor and Iftar.
The distribution program was a resounding success, reaching hundreds of families across Gaza. The gratitude of those who received the food baskets was heart-warming.
Here are some quotes from the families who received our Ramadan food baskets:
"This food basket is a lifesaver for my family. We are so grateful to HANDS and MCEC for their generosity," said a mother of five.
"Thanks to HANDS and MCEC, we can celebrate Ramadan with dignity and peace of mind," shared an elderly resident.
Our Ramadan food basket distribution program is a powerful example of how charitable giving can make a real difference in people's lives. By providing essential food aid, we helped families in Gaza experience the true spirit of Ramadan – a time for compassion, generosity, and community.

Gaza Food Fair
When ‘HANDS International’ and ‘Palmers Green Mosque’ decided to take action for Gaza in our community by holding our Gaza Food Fair, we didn’t expect to uncover such a hurtful undertone in our community, as well as a deep desire of wanting to contribute.
Yes, as many other charities aimed, we also wanted to raise humanitarian funds for the beautiful people of Gaza who have been affected by recent events. However, during the process of planning for the event over the past 8 days, we uncovered the underlying hurt, the heartache, the sympathetic pain almost, the determination and resolve to outwardly demonstrate the connectivity through ummah, essentially the brother/sister-hood that was being felt in our community after recent events. As ‘HANDS International’ and ‘Palmers Green Mosque’ progressed it quickly became apparent that our responsibility also lay not only with our brothers and sisters in Palestine, but also with our own community here who are almost traumatised, well, at least yearning and felt duty bound to make things better for our siblings 2,200 miles away.
