Facts are hard to come by amidst the confusion, but early information suggests that the death toll might exceed 10,000. Around 4.5 million survivors are in need of immediate assistance, with some regions completely cut off from easy access.
There is an urgent need for emergency supplies of drinking water, food, tents and preventative sanitation due to the extensive damage to the local water networks and food sources. A state of emergency has been declared in 38 cities, 215 municipalities, 37 provinces and 9 regions.

HANDS Response to Balochistan Earthquake

Powerful earthquake struck Baluchistan on 24th September 2013, the quake’s epicentre was near Awaran District, but other districts of Baluchistan – Kech (Turbat), Panjgur, Khuzdar and Gwadar were also affected. According to the reports, tremors registered 7.8 on the Richter scale. After the incident another earthquake of 7.2 magnitude hit the same area of Baluchistan on September 28, 2013.
